The print showcases two iconic ancient Egyptian landmarks: Cleopatra's Obelisk and the Great Sphinx of Giza. The obelisk, also known as the Cleopatra's Needle, is depicted standing tall against the backdrop of the desert landscape. It is adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and carved with the image of the pharaoh Ramesses II. This obelisk was originally erected in Heliopolis during the Egyptian Old Kingdom and was later re-erected in London's Victoria Embankment Gardens in 1878. The Great Sphinx, a legendary guardian of the Giza pyramids, is shown in the foreground of the print. This colossal statue, carved from limestone, dates back to the reign of Pharaoh Khafre around 2500 BC. The Sphinx is depicted with the body of a lion and the head of a human, believed to represent the pharaoh himself.
