The royal couple, dressed in their formal uniforms, are seen boarding a train at a bustling railway station, ready to commence their official duties. In November 1910, the Duke was appointed to open the first parliament of the newly formed Union of South Africa. Upon their arrival, they were welcomed with great fanfare, and on the 30th of November, the Duke laid a commemorative stone at the Rand Regiments Memorial in Johannesburg. This memorial was dedicated to the British soldiers who had tragically lost their lives during the Second Boer War.
