Rebellion in Crete: A Failed Attempt to Rid the Island of Turkish Rule (1878) This historic photograph captures a pivotal moment during the Cretan Revolution, an uprising against the Ottoman Turkish rule that lasted from 1866 to 1869 and intermittently until 1898.
