This image is taken from Curtis's British Entomology, Plate 441, featuring the intricately detailed illustration of Oxycera morrisii, a species of fly belonging to the family Lestidae, also known as net-winged flies. The fly is depicted perched on the petals of Listera ovata, commonly known as the common twayblade or Epipactis ovata, a beautiful and elusive orchid native to damp woodlands in Europe. Drawn between the years 1824 and 1839, this exquisite plate was produced under the direction of John Curtis FLS (Fellow of the Linnean Society), a renowned English botanist and entomologist.
