EDITORS COMMENTS
This close-up photograph captures the raw power and beauty of a Bengal Tiger at a French zoo, circa 1900. The Bengal Tiger (Panthera tigris tigris) is the most numerous subspecies of tiger, with estimated populations of approximately 1,706,190 in India, 44,000 in Bangladesh, 163,253 in Nepal, and 67,810 in Bhutan. However, despite being the most populous tiger subspecies, the Bengal tiger is currently classified as endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The total population is estimated to be fewer than 2,500 individuals, with a decreasing trend. None of the Tiger Conservation Landscapes within the Bengal tiger's range is large enough to support an effective population size of 250 adult individuals. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation efforts to protect this magnificent creature and its habitat. The Bengal tiger is a majestic animal, with its distinctive orange coat and black stripes, and its powerful build and agility make it a formidable predator. Despite its endangered status, it remains a symbol of strength and beauty in the natural world.
