Alfonso X of Castile, also known as Alfonso the Wise or El Sabio (The Wise), was born in Toledo, Spain, in 1221, during the 13th century. He ascended to the throne as King of Castile and Leon in 1252, ruling until his death in Seville in 1284. This portrait depicts Alfonso X in regal attire, holding a scepter in one hand and a sword in the other, symbolizing his authority and power.
