Type 45 Destroyer HMS Diamond Enters Portsmouth for the First Time

HMS Diamond, the third of six formidable air defence warships being built for the Royal Navy, arrived in her home port of Portsmouth for the first time on Wednesday September 22nd.
Built by BAE Systems, the Type 45 destroyer was launched in November 2007 from its Govan shipyard in Glasgow. Final stages of construction and systems integration were then carried out at its Scotstoun yard in the city and the ship has since been carrying out sea trials in Scottish waters.
For her arrival into Portsmouth, HMS Diamond passed the Round Tower, Old Portsmouth, at 7am. Later in the day in the Naval Base the ship will be formally handed to the Royal Navy by BAE Systems in a ceremony on the ships flight deck
