RFA Wave Knight

RFA Wave Knight at sea.
RFA Wave Knight (A389) is a Wave Knight-class fast fleet tanker of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. She was launched in 2000 and accepted into service in 2003. She is the second ship to bear this name in RFA service. Wave Knight and her sister, Wave Ruler, replaced the elderly Olna and Olwen, 36, 000 ton fast fleet tankers built at Swan Hunter and Hawthorn Leslie respectively in the 1960s.

The ships are crewed by 72 Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel and there is also provision for 26 Royal Navy personnel for helicopter and weapons systems operations.
Wave Knight is able to operate in support of amphibious forces, anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare operations and protection of vital sea areas and shipping.
She has the capability to deliver fuel through an RAS (replenishment at sea) rig, either port, starboard or astern to other vessels.
For amphibious support, the ships can also deliver fuel to pillow tanks or dracones positioned alongside

EDITORS COMMENTS
The print captures the majestic RFA Wave Knight (A389) at sea, showcasing its impressive presence and capabilities. As a member of the Wave Knight-class fast fleet tanker, this vessel has been an integral part of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary since its launch in 2000. With a crew of 72 dedicated Royal Fleet Auxiliary personnel and provision for 26 Royal Navy personnel, Wave Knight is well-equipped to handle various operations. From supporting amphibious forces to engaging in anti-surface and anti-submarine warfare missions, this ship plays a crucial role in protecting vital sea areas and shipping. One of Wave Knight's notable features is its ability to deliver fuel through replenishment at sea (RAS) rigs. Whether it be port, starboard, or astern refueling, this tanker ensures that other vessels receive the necessary fuel supply. Additionally, for amphibious support purposes, Wave Knight can also deliver fuel to pillow tanks or dracones positioned alongside. This print not only showcases the power and versatility of RFA Wave Knight but also pays tribute to its predecessor ships Olna and Olwen. Built decades earlier by Swan Hunter and Hawthorn Leslie respectively in the 1960s, these older tankers paved the way for modern advancements within the Royal Fleet Auxiliary. Overall, this image serves as a reminder of the dedication and commitment exhibited by both past and present naval personnel who serve on board RFA Wave Knight.
