Once upon a time in the enchanted world of Charles Perrault's beloved fairy tales, the cunning and resourceful Puss in Boots came to the rescue of his master, the Marquis Carabas. In this illustration by Charles Folkard, dated 1923, we find the Marquis in a perilous predicament, drowning in a swift-moving river.
