In a desperate attempt to raise funds, he pawned one of his most valuable possessions - a gold watch - at this very pub. The Castle's pawnbroker, recognizing the significance of the item, held onto it until the King's fortunes improved. As a token of gratitude, King George IV later granted the pub the exclusive right to operate as a pawnbrokerage, a tradition that continues to this day. The Castle, fronted by a red brick facade, exudes an inviting atmosphere with its ornate wooden sign and warm, welcoming glow.
