This striking studio portrait captures the stern yet resolute visage of General Sir Arthur Edward Aveling Holland (1862-1927), a prominent British army officer who played a significant role in the command and training of troops during the First World War. At the time this photograph was taken, Holland held the esteemed positions of Commandant of the Royal Military Academy Woolwich and Commander Royal Artillery.
