Born on October 18, 1864, in County Armagh, Ireland, de Lisle joined the British Army in 1883 and rose through the ranks to become a respected and accomplished military leader. During the First World War, de Lisle served as the General Officer Commanding of the 21st Army Corps and later the 1st Cavalry Division. He was instrumental in the planning and execution of several key military operations, including the Battle of Loos and the Battle of Arras. After the war, de Lisle continued to serve in the British Army, holding various high-ranking positions. He retired from the military in 1931.
