Despite his denials of heresy and assurances of loyalty to the Church, Hus was summoned to the Council of Constance in 1415 to answer for his beliefs. The council, however, was not swayed by his arguments and, on July 6, 1415, Hus was condemned as a heretic and sentenced to be burnt at the stake.
