Silenus, the Nurse and Companion of Dionysos, or Bacchus, in a Revelry Moment (Peter Paul Rubens, c. 1618-1620) This print, brought to us by the renowned Flemish Baroque artist Peter Paul Rubens, depicts the mythological figure of Silenus, an attendant and companion of Dionysos, the Greek god of wine, fertility, and revelry, also known as Bacchus. Silenus, often portrayed as a satyr, is shown here in a jovial moment, surrounded by the lush foliage and wild abandon of a Bacchic revelry.
