Abstract visualisation: the dark tunnel into Herculaneum 7
Herculaneum, Italy - 22 October 2014
Located in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius, Herculaneum was an ancient Roman town destroyed by a major volcanic eruption in 79 AD. In fact, it was completely buried. This image started off showing the dark and scary tunnel that leads to the now uncovered remains. But then I got adventurous and turned it into something more colorful and abstract, using a combination of Photoshop techniques including multi-layer blending, transformations and gradient mapping. I hope you like it

This print titled "Abstract visualisation: the dark tunnel into Herculaneum 7" transports us to the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum, located in the ominous shadow of Mount Vesuvius. The image captures a once terrifying and foreboding tunnel that leads to the uncovered remains of this buried civilization. However, the artist's creative vision took a bold turn as they transformed this dark and eerie scene into something vibrant and abstract. Jon Bower's innovative approach breathes new life into the forgotten ruins of Herculaneum while paying homage to its rich archaeological significance.
