EDITORS COMMENTS
This evocative photograph captures a tender moment between Crown Princess Margareta of Connaught, later known as Daisy, and her young daughter, Princess Ingrid of Sweden, in the early 1900s. The Crown Princess, a granddaughter of Queen Victoria, is dressed elegantly in a long-sleeved blouse and a flowing skirt, while her daughter, who would later become Crown Princess of Denmark, is swaddled in soft white fabric and gazes up at her mother with curious eyes. The image exudes an air of tranquility and love, as the two royal women share a bond that transcends their regal titles. Born in 1882, Daisy was the eldest child of the Duke and Duchess of Connaught and Strathearn. She grew up in the shadow of her famous grandmother, Queen Victoria, and was known for her beauty, intelligence, and strong character. In 1905, she married Prince Carl of Sweden and became the Crown Princess of Sweden. Tragically, she died suddenly in 1920 at the age of 38, leaving her husband and their four young children behind. Princess Ingrid, who was only 11 years old at the time of her mother's death, went on to marry Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark in 1935. She became the mother of four children and played an important role in Danish royal life until her death in 2000. This photograph serves as a poignant reminder of the close relationship between mother and daughter, and the enduring legacy of the Swedish and Danish royal families.
