Rat used in space experiment

Rat used in space research. This rat was one scheduled for flight on the Photon-M3 scientific research mission in 2007. The Photon-M series of spacecraft were designed mainly for biological experiments looking into the effects of microgravity and long duration space flights. Photon-M3 was launched into low-Earth orbit on 14 September 2007 on a Soyuz U rocket and landed back on Earth 12 days later

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a brave rat that played an integral role in space exploration. The image captures the essence of a significant scientific experiment conducted during the Photon-M3 research mission in 2007. Designed primarily for biological investigations, the Photon-M series spacecraft aimed to unravel the mysteries surrounding microgravity and long-duration space flights. The rat featured here was one of the courageous creatures scheduled for flight on this groundbreaking mission. With its tiny paws firmly gripping onto the bars of its cage, it symbolizes both resilience and curiosity as it embarked on an extraordinary journey beyond Earth's atmosphere. As part of this pioneering experiment, scientists sought to understand how living organisms adapt to weightlessness and cosmic radiation in outer space. This particular rat became an invaluable subject within a controlled laboratory setting, providing researchers with invaluable insights into these crucial aspects of human space travel. Launched aboard a Soyuz U rocket on September 14th, 2007, this furry pioneer spent twelve days floating gracefully through low-Earth orbit before safely returning home. Its contribution to advancing our understanding of biology in space cannot be overstated. This remarkable photograph from Science Photo Library serves as a testament to humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge and our unwavering determination to explore uncharted territories beyond our planet's boundaries.
