ISS Biolab training station

ISS Biolab training station. This is the training station for the Biolab rack contained in the Columbus module of the International Space Station (ISS). This training station is located at the ESA (European Space Agency) Astronaut Training Centre in Cologne, Germany. Biolab includes equipment for biological experiments, such as studying the effects of microgravity on plants, microbes and other organisms. Equipment includes an incubator, microscope, spectrophotometer and centrifuges. It also includes a glovebox (seen here) called the BioGloveBox (BGB), and temperature control units (TCUs)

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the ISS Biolab training station, located at the ESA Astronaut Training Centre in Cologne, Germany. The Biolab rack is an essential component of the Columbus module on board the International Space Station (ISS), dedicated to conducting biological experiments in microgravity. Equipped with state-of-the-art instruments and technology, this advanced laboratory enables scientists to study the effects of weightlessness on various organisms including plants, microbes, and more. Among its impressive array of equipment are an incubator for controlled growth conditions, a powerful microscope for detailed analysis, a spectrophotometer for precise measurements, and centrifuges for separating substances. The focal point of this image is the BioGloveBox (BGB), a specialized glovebox that allows astronauts to handle samples safely within a controlled environment. Additionally, temperature control units ensure optimal experimental conditions throughout. This photograph represents Europe's significant contribution to space research and highlights their commitment to advancing our understanding of biology beyond Earth's boundaries. With its cutting-edge facilities and scientific expertise, this training station serves as a vital hub for preparing astronauts and researchers alike for missions aboard the ISS. Capturing both technological innovation and scientific exploration in one frame, this image from Science Photo Library exemplifies humanity's relentless pursuit of knowledge in the 21st century.
