Indian Moon Moth scale detail. Scanning electron micrograph of part of the wing scale of an Indian Moon Moth or Indian Luna Moth (Actias selene). This moth is found in many countries including Japan, India, Nepal and many islands in eastern Asia. Its wings are predominantly pale green in colour with a white abdomen, head, thorax and white at the base of the wings. A distinctive dark pink fascia runs along the leading edge of the forewings and an eyespot of a paler pink with darker detail are on all wings. The central part of the tail is also pink. They are known to fly mainly at night. Magnification x20000 (x5000 at 10cm wide)
