Fingerprint records. 1920s application of fingerprinting technology to administer the bonus scheme established in the USA for World War I veterans. This scheme arose from the World War Adjusted Compensation Act of May 1924, which resulted in over 3 million military service certificates issued to a combined value (at the time) of over 3 billion US dollars. Research into fingerprinting developed throughout the 19th century. Its applications became widespread during the 20th century, ranging from forensics to identification systems.
