EDITORS COMMENTS
This print transports us back to the early 1900s, capturing the grandeur of The Technical School in Union Place, Truro, Cornwall. Designed by the renowned architect Silvanus Trevail and funded by Passmore Edwards, this magnificent building stands as a testament to the importance of education in society. The image showcases the side/back view of this architectural marvel, highlighting its impressive size and intricate detailing. With its towering facade and elegant windows, it exudes an air of sophistication that befits its purpose as a hub for learning. Originally established as a Technical College for both men and women in 1899, this institution played a vital role in shaping generations of students' futures. In the 1930s, it transitioned into a secondary school exclusively for boys aged 11-15. Interestingly enough, The Technical School was built as an extension to the Passmore Edwards Free Library which had been constructed just three years prior. These two buildings later served as Truro Community Library - spaces where knowledge thrived within their walls. While we may not know who precisely captured this remarkable moment frozen in time through their lens, we can appreciate their ability to immortalize such an important piece of history. This photograph serves as a reminder of how architecture intertwines with education to create lasting legacies that continue to shape our communities today.
