The occasion marked the official opening of these remarkable flats that were built to replace slums by a collaboration between the Church Army and Kensington Council. The photo showcases Mrs. Chamberlain's significant role in inaugurating these innovative living spaces designed like houses with balconies. Each flat boasts its own separate entrance along with spacious rooms including a living area, kitchenette, bathroom facilities, and multiple bedrooms. This monochrome image serves as a poignant reminder of Europe's tumultuous interwar period when efforts were made to uplift communities ravaged by poverty and inadequate housing conditions.
