EDITORS COMMENTS
Caption: "Pupils at Saltscar Comprehensive School, Redcar, put their football skills to the test as they played non-stop for 12 hours in a fundraising event. The five-a-side marathon aimed to raise £100 for school funds, with most of the proceeds going towards maintaining the school's field study cottage at Farwath near Pickering. A total of fifteen enthusiastic pupils took part in this memorable event. In this print from July 3rd, 1982, we see some exhausted but proud participants taking a well-deserved rest. From left to right, we have Gordon Young, Stephen Jones, Andrew Mudd, Glen Birkbeek and Jimmy Spiers catching their breath after giving it their all on the pitch. This snapshot captures not only the determination and teamwork displayed by these young athletes but also highlights the spirit of community and support within Saltscar Comprehensive School. It is a testament to their commitment that they were willing to dedicate an entire day to raising funds for their beloved institution. As we look back on this nostalgic moment from the 1980s, it serves as a reminder of how sports can bring people together while contributing towards important causes. This image is part of Teesside Archive's Memory Lane Prints collection - preserving cherished memories like these for generations to come. "
