EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the majestic presence of the Italian registered Fokker F. VIIB-3m I-aIG, a remarkable and more powerful version of its eight-passenger airliner counterpart. Adorned with three 330hp Whirlwind J-6-9 radial engines, this aircraft exudes an air of strength and capability. Once belonging to the esteemed Italian company Ala Littoria, this particular Fokker was photographed in Somaliland but typically operated from Asmara, Eritrea. It served as a symbol of Italy's colonial ambitions during the era of imperialism. Dating back to circa 1935, this image takes us on a journey through time when aviation played a crucial role in expanding empires across distant lands. The aircraft's presence in Somaliland serves as a reminder of Italy's influence and control over its colonies during that period. Tragically, like many other planes lost during the chaos of World War II, this magnificent Fokker met its untimely demise. However, through photographs like these preserved by Memory Lane Prints, we can still appreciate and admire the beauty and historical significance it represents. This print encapsulates not only the technological advancements made in aviation during the 1930s but also sheds light on an era defined by colonialism and exploration.
