EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph depicts the second Vickers FB 12c single-seat fighter plane, serial number A 7352, which first took to the skies in the late spring of 1917 during the First World War. The Vickers FB 12c was a biplane designed to meet the British Air Ministry's requirement for a new single-seat fighter aircraft. Despite being the second of only two built, this aircraft, like its predecessor, unfortunately failed to meet the expectations of the military. The First World War marked a pivotal period in the history of aviation, with advancements in aircraft design and technology rapidly advancing the capabilities of military aviation. The Vickers FB 12c was a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the engineers and designers of the time, who were striving to create superior aircraft to secure air supremacy on the battlefield. The Vickers FB 12c was a biplane with a distinctive angular fuselage and a powerful Rolls-Royce Falcon engine. It was armed with two synchronised Vickers machine guns and had a top speed of 118 miles per hour. However, its handling characteristics were deemed unsatisfactory, and it failed to outperform the existing aircraft in service. This photograph captures the Vickers FB 12c on the ground, likely during testing or evaluation by the military. The image offers a glimpse into the past, providing a window into the world of early military aviation and the relentless pursuit of innovation and improvement during the First World War.
