EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photograph from the T. rex The Killer Question exhibition at The Natural History Museum in London, we witness a dramatic encounter between two iconic dinosaurs of the Upper Cretaceous period: Tyrannosaurus rex and Triceratops. The animatronic model of the fearsome T. rex, expertly crafted by Kokoro Dreams of Tokyo, towers over its ceratopsian prey. The T. rex, a member of the coelurosaur suborder of theropod dinosaurs, is renowned for its massive size, powerful jaws, and intimidating presence. Triceratops, a ceratopsid ceratopsian dinosaur, is characterized by its distinctive frilled skull adorned with horns. This cerapodan dinosaur, a member of the Cerapoda order, was likely a herbivore, making it an unlikely prey for the T. rex. However, the scene before us suggests a different story. The Upper Cretaceous period, marked by the presence of these impressive archosaurians, was a time of great diversity and evolution among the dinosaurs. The diapsid reptiles, a group that includes both dinosaurs and their modern-day descendants, dominated the Earth's terrestrial ecosystems. The T. rex and Triceratops models are part of an intriguing display that invites visitors to explore the mysteries of these extinct creatures and the world they inhabited. Through the use of animatronics, visitors can experience a glimpse into the past, imagining the interactions between these fascinating animals and the complex ecosystems they called home. This photograph is a testament to the captivating allure of dinosaurs and the ongoing fascination they hold for people of all ages. It serves as a reminder of the rich history and diversity of life that has come before us, and the importance of continued exploration and discovery.
