"Sir George Jessel, QC (1824-1883), a prominent figure in English legal history, is depicted in this photograph. Born on March 25, 1824, in London, England, Jessel demonstrated exceptional intellect and dedication from an early age, which would later propel him to become one of the most renowned lawyers of his time. Jessel's legal career began in 1847 when he was called to the bar at the Inner Temple. Over the next several decades, he built a formidable reputation as a skilled barrister, specializing in equity and commercial law. In 1873, he was appointed a Queen's Counsel, an honor bestowed upon the most distinguished barristers. This photograph, taken during the later years of his illustrious career, captures Sir George Jessel in the prime of his life. Dressed in the formal attire of the time, he exudes an air of confidence and wisdom. The portrait serves as a testament to his professional achievements and enduring legacy in the legal world. Jessel's influence extended beyond the courtroom. He was a prolific writer, publishing numerous articles and books on legal topics. In addition, he was a dedicated advocate for legal reform, playing a significant role in the establishment of the Law Commission in 1836.
