Born on November 12, 1651, in San Miguel Nepantla, Mexico, Juana Inés de la Cruz, also known as the "Mexican Sappho" or the "Tenth Muse of Mexico," was a renowned writer, poet, and religious figure. The painting, created around 1695, captures the essence of Juana Inés de la Cruz's spirituality and intellectual brilliance.
