EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures the elegant moment when Reggie Duff, the Australian Test cricketer, hits an on-drive during a match in 1905. Duff, whose full name was Reginald Arthur Duff, was a key figure in the early history of Australian cricket, making his debut for New South Wales in 1901 and going on to represent his country in 13 Tests between 1904 and 1908. Dressed in the iconic Baggy Green cap and traditional cricket whites, Duff is shown in mid-swing, the bat connecting with the ball in a graceful arc. The image exudes a sense of timelessness and nostalgia, transporting us back to a bygone era of sporting history. The on-drive was one of Duff's signature strokes, a shot that he played with great finesse and power. This photograph, taken during a Test match against England, encapsulates the skill and artistry of the Australian batsman, who went on to score 1,156 runs in his Test career at an impressive average of 38.53. Reggie Duff's legacy as a cricketer extends beyond his impressive statistics, however. He was also known for his sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct on the field, earning him the respect of his opponents and admiration from fans. This photograph is a fitting tribute to a great Australian cricketer and an enduring symbol of the rich history of the game.
