EDITORS COMMENTS
Lady Evelyn Graham, formerly Lady Evelyn Catherine King (1896-1974), is depicted in this striking portrait taken by the renowned British photographer Madame Yevonde in 1928. Born into the aristocracy as the daughter of the 3rd Earl of Lovelace, Lady Evelyn's life was marked by the elegance and grandeur of the upper class during the 1920s. At the time of this photograph, Lady Evelyn had recently divorced her first husband, Major-General Miles Graham, whom she had married in 1918. The divorce, a relatively rare occurrence in the aristocracy of the era, caused a stir in high society. Just two years later, in 1930, she would remarry, this time to Sir John Greig. Madame Yevonde's photograph captures Lady Evelyn's beauty and poise, reflecting the sophistication and glamour of the 1920s. The artist's use of a soft focus and dramatic lighting adds to the ethereal quality of the image, making it a captivating representation of a woman of the aristocracy during this fascinating period of history.
