The Geisha by Owen Hall

Promotional postcard of The Geisha by Owen Hall; music Sidney Jones produced by George Edwardes. First produced at Dalys Theatre, London 25th April 1896. Edwardes took advantage of the continuing fascination of the public with the orient that had brought such success to Gilbert and Sullivan in The Mikado. However, The Geisha was a more topical entertainment than The Mikado, and despite its great initial popularity, The Geisha did not endure through the decades as well as The Mikado. The image shows the back and front pages of four-page flyer for Morrell and Mouillots Company touring to the Coronet Theatre, Notting Hill from 27th March 1899. The Gorgeous Japanese Costumes by Liberty & Co. The Greatest Success Ever Known in London. As played at Dalys Theatre, London for Two Years. Date: 1899
