He was accused of corruption and exploitation, and his actions led to the infamous "black hole of Calcutta" incident, where hundreds of prisoners were allegedly confined in a small room and left to die. Despite these controversies, Clive remained a powerful figure in British politics and was knighted in 1765 and later created a baronet and a baron.
