The photograph, taken circa 1840, depicts a family of four, dressed in the fashion of the time, standing before Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem, Israel. The tomb, located at the entrance to the city, is a site of great importance in Jewish and Christian tradition. Rachel, the wife of Jacob, is believed to have died in childbirth on the way to Bethlehem, giving birth to Benjamin. According to the biblical account, her tomb is located near the tomb of her husband, who is buried in the Cave of Machpelah in Hebron.
