EDITORS COMMENTS
This exquisite photograph captures the grace and elegance of Augusta Victoria of Schleswig-Holstein, later known as Empress consort of Germany, in an elegant evening gown from the late 19th century. Born on October 22, 1858, in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, Augusta Victoria was the daughter of Frederick VIII, Duke of Schleswig-Holstein, and Adelheid of Hohenlohe-Langenburg. In 1884, she married Kaiser Wilhelm II, the German Emperor, in a grand ceremony held in Berlin. In this stunning image, Augusta Victoria wears an elegant evening dress with a fitted bodice and a full, flowing skirt. She accessorizes the dress with a beautiful tiara adorned with pearls and feathers, a boa made of white feathers, and a fan made of ostrich feathers. Her hair is styled in an intricate updo, and she wears a strand of pearls around her neck. The photograph captures the refined beauty and poise of the Empress, who was known for her love of fashion and her commitment to her role as the German Emperor's wife and consort. Augusta Victoria was a popular figure in German society, and she was known for her charitable work and her support of various causes. She continued to serve as the German Empress until the end of World War I, when the German monarchy was abolished. Augusta Victoria died on October 14, 1921, at the age of 62, in Schloss Potsdam, Germany. This photograph is a testament to her beauty, elegance, and the grace and dignity she brought to the German Imperial Court.
