South Winfield manor house, 1844. Creator: Unknown
South Winfield manor house, 1844. View of Wingfield Manor near South Wingfield in Derbyshire. The house, which dates back to 1441, fell into ruin in the 18th century. This once princely pile...was built in the reign of Henry VI...The mansion is beautifully situated on a commanding eminence, rising from deep valleys, again surrounded on every side with richly-wooded hills; its tall grey towers and battlemented turrets, mantled with ivy, rising proudly above the noble oaks and walnuts in which it is embosomed. The mansion is quite dismantled, and much of it destroyed... From " Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol V

This print showcases the South Winfield manor house in all its former glory. Created by an unknown artist in 1844, this image offers a glimpse into the grandeur of Wingfield Manor near South Wingfield in Derbyshire. Dating back to 1441, this once majestic residence fell into ruin during the 18th century. The photograph captures the essence of this princely pile that was built during Henry VI's reign. The tall grey towers and battlemented turrets, adorned with ivy, proudly rise above noble oaks and walnuts that embrace the mansion.
