EDITORS COMMENTS
This print takes us back to the year 1897, capturing a group of young Russian Marxists who would go on to shape the course of history. At the center stands Vladimir Lenin, a figure whose name would become synonymous with revolution and communism. With an air of determination in his eyes, Lenin exudes leadership even at this early stage. Seated to his right is L. Martov, known by his birth name Yuly Osipovich Tsederbaum. Little did they know then that their paths would diverge as they became leaders of two opposing factions within the Marxist movement - Lenin leading the Bolsheviks and Martov becoming a prominent Menshevik leader. The photograph was taken in St. Petersburg around 1895 when these individuals were still relatively unknown but harbored grand aspirations for change in their country. It serves as a poignant reminder that even great leaders start somewhere, often surrounded by like-minded individuals who share their ideals. As we gaze upon this image frozen in time, it's impossible not to ponder what lies ahead for these young men - how their ideologies will clash and intertwine amidst tumultuous times in Russia's history. This print offers us a glimpse into the formative years of influential figures whose actions would leave an indelible mark on both Russian society and global politics.
