EDITORS COMMENTS
This stunning print captures a moment from the Tales of a Parrot (Tuti-nama), specifically the Seventh night where the daughter of the king of the jinns bows before the King of Kings. The scene depicts a powerful and mystical encounter, as the King of Kings has just undergone an ordeal by passing through boiling oil to emerge as a youth.
The intricate details in this Mughal School artwork, created in the 16th century during Akbar's reign, showcase opulent colors, delicate ink work, and touches of gold that bring this historical tale to life. The composition features four individuals engaged in a significant interaction that is rich with symbolism and cultural significance.
The Tuti-nama itself is a collection of 52 stories written in Persian during the 14th century. This particular version commissioned by Emperor Akbar contains 250 miniature paintings that add depth and visual storytelling to each narrative.
As you gaze upon this image, you can almost feel the tension and reverence between these characters. It serves as a reminder of India's rich literary traditions, artistic heritage, and royal history.
