Colour Blindness Test

Colour blindness test. Computer artwork of an Ishihara colour test card used to check for red- green colour blindness. The card is comprised of red and orange dots on a background of green dots. A person with normal vision will be able to see the word colour. A person with red deficiency (protanopia) will only see the orange parts of the word, while those with green deficiency (deuteranopia) will only see the red parts of the word. Colour blindness is usually caused by an inherited genetic defect in the light-sensitive cells (cones) of the eye. Colour blindness can also be caused by optic injury or nerve diseases

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases an Ishihara colour test card, a powerful tool used to detect red-green colour blindness. The computer artwork features a mesmerizing composition of red and orange dots against a backdrop of green dots. A person with normal vision will easily perceive the word "colour" embedded within the image. However, individuals with specific deficiencies in their sight will experience distinct variations. For those affected by protanopia (red deficiency), only the orange parts of the word become visible, while individuals with deuteranopia (green deficiency) can solely discern the red segments. Colour blindness primarily stems from inherited genetic defects present in the light-sensitive cells or cones within our eyes. Nevertheless, it can also manifest as a result of optic injuries or nerve diseases. This thought-provoking artwork not only serves as an illustration but also holds immense significance in medicine and ophthalmology for diagnosis purposes. By analyzing how different individuals perceive this image, medical professionals gain valuable insights into identifying and understanding various forms of colour blindness such as protanomaly and deuteranomaly. Science Photo Library has expertly captured this visually striking representation that delves into diagnostics related to visual abnormalities. It is important to note that this caption focuses on appreciating scientific knowledge rather than promoting any commercial use associated with Science Photo Library's work.
