EDITORS COMMENTS
A thrilling moment from the 2017/18 season as Preston North End took on Birmingham City at St. Andrew's Trillion Trophy Stadium. The atmosphere was electric, with both sets of fans creating a cacophony of noise that echoed around the ground. The visitors, dressed in their iconic red and white stripes, were determined to secure all three points and build on their impressive start to the campaign. In this image, captured by renowned local photographer Dave Kendall, we see Preston North End's number 11, Callum Robinson, in the act of scoring the opening goal. The ball is poised on the brink of the Birmingham City goal line, with Robinson's outstretched leg ready to apply the finishing touch. The expression on his face is one of pure elation and relief, as he celebrates what would prove to be a crucial goal in the game. The Birmingham City defence, in disbelief, look on as the ball crosses the line. The Preston North End fans, meanwhile, are in raptures, their voices rising in a triumphant roar. This moment encapsulates the passion, excitement, and unpredictability of football, as two teams battle it out on the pitch, with the outcome hanging in the balance. The 1-0 victory was a hard-fought one for Preston North End, but they emerged victorious, thanks in part to Robinson's early goal. The result lifted them to the top of the Championship table, and they went on to enjoy a successful season, finishing in a respectable mid-table position. This photograph serves as a reminder of that memorable day, and the thrill of the beautiful game.
