The Excellence of British engineering has been demonstrated by two old motorcycles

The Excellence of British engineering has been demonstrated by two old motorcycles undergoing renovation in a council workshop. Despite years of neglects, a tankful of petrol and a little cleaning of points and plugs was all that was needed to start the 600cc engine of a 1952 Panther Sloper. A 1938 Rudge Supersport was coaxed back to life almost as quickly even though a substitute petrol tank had to be rigged up to fuel the 250cc engine. The machines were discovered when Langbaurgh Borough Council began to take stock of museum exhibits which had been forgotten or lost during years of local government change. Depot worker, Mr Alf Wood with the two restored bikes. 1st April 1981

EDITORS COMMENTS
The Excellence of British engineering shines through in this photo print, showcasing two old motorcycles undergoing a remarkable renovation within a council workshop. Despite years of neglect, the resilience and craftsmanship of these vintage machines have been revived with just a tankful of petrol and some meticulous cleaning of points and plugs. One glance at the 1952 Panther Sloper reveals its glorious revival as its 600cc engine roars back to life. A testament to British ingenuity, it only required minimal intervention to awaken this beauty from its slumber. Similarly, the 1938 Rudge Supersport was coaxed into action almost as swiftly, albeit with the need for a makeshift petrol tank to fuel its 250cc engine. These extraordinary discoveries were made by Langbaurgh Borough Council during their inventory assessment of forgotten or lost museum exhibits amidst changing local government dynamics. It is truly heartening to witness dedicated depot worker Mr Alf Wood proudly posing alongside these restored gems. Transporting us back in time to April 1st, 1981, this photograph encapsulates not just an era but also pays homage to the timeless allure of classic motorbikes. As we admire these meticulously restored marvels today, let us celebrate the enduring legacy left behind by British engineering prowess.
