A Great Plaice for Fishing. St Annes on Sea, Lancashire, had a problem with their open air swimming pool. How to clean the pool of Alge and dirt in time for the start of the new season which started on the 10th MAy 1980.
Then some one had the bright idea of filling the large pool with sea water fish to eatt the Algae.
When the pool was almost clean the Borough of Fylde invited local fisherman to empty the pool with their rods.

. In this print from 1980, we are transported back to St Annes on Sea, Lancashire, where an unusual predicament befell their beloved open-air swimming pool. As the new season approached on May 10th, the pool was plagued by unsightly algae and dirt that needed urgent attention. However, amidst the concern and brainstorming sessions, one ingenious idea emerged – filling the large pool with sea water fish known for their appetite for algae. And so it began; these aquatic helpers diligently feasted upon the stubborn green invaders until the pool was almost spotless. To celebrate this remarkable solution and showcase community spirit, the Borough of Fylde extended an invitation to local fishermen. Armed with their trusty fishing rods and brimming with excitement, they eagerly gathered around the now pristine pool ready to lend a hand in its final clean-up.
