Sir William Crookes, a renowned scientist and investigator of spiritual phenomena, was deeply intrigued by the claims of mediumship and the possibility of communicating with the deceased. Florence Cook, a young woman from London, had gained notoriety for her alleged ability to materialize the spirit of Katie King during séances.
