This intriguing photograph captures the moment when renowned Scottish medium Helen Duncan is believed to have begun emitting ectoplasm during a séance in Edinburgh, Scotland, in May 1933. The image, taken during the height of the spiritualist movement, shows Duncan in a trance-like state, with her hand holding a white glove and extending it towards a curtain.
