This lantern slide depicts Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale (1864-1892), the elder son of King Edward VII, in an elegant portrait taken circa 1885. At the time, Prince Albert Victor was a celebrated figure in British society and the heir apparent to the throne. Tragically, his life was cut short at the young age of 28 when he succumbed to pneumonia. Born on January 8, 1864, in Windsor Castle, Prince Albert Victor was the eldest son of Edward, Prince of Wales, and Princess Alexandra of Denmark. He was known for his striking good looks, intelligence, and charisma, making him a popular figure among the public. In this photograph, Prince Albert Victor is dressed in formal attire, wearing a military uniform with decorations and medals adorning his chest.
