EDITORS COMMENTS
In this enchanting photograph from 1931, the Duke and Duchess of York, along with their young daughter, Princess Elizabeth, make their arrival at the Royal Tournament in Olympia, London. The Duke, later known as King George VI, is smartly dressed in military attire, while the Duchess, later Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, wears an elegant coat and hat. Their adorable daughter, Princess Elizabeth, the future Queen Elizabeth II, is seen wearing a white dress and a bow in her hair, as she acknowledges the salute of the welcoming committee with a charming smile. The Royal Tournament was an annual military spectacle held in London, showcasing the skills and prowess of the British armed forces. This event was an important occasion for the royal family, who were always present to lend their support and grace the occasion with their presence. Upon their arrival, the family was greeted by a guard of honor of the Royal Air Force, who presented a smart salute. However, the young Princess Elizabeth, who was only 11 years old at the time, seemed to have gotten a little confused and saluted back with her left hand instead of her right. Despite this innocent mistake, she looked every inch the future monarch, exuding confidence and poise beyond her years. This charming photograph captures a moment in time from the 1930s, a decade marked by change and uncertainty, but also by a sense of pride and tradition. It is a reminder of the enduring legacy of the British monarchy and the role that the royal family continues to play in the lives of the people.
