This evocative image captures the moment when Father Jacques Marquette, a French Jesuit missionary, and his companions embarked on a small sailboat to explore the vast expanse of the American rivers in 1673. The year was 1673, and Marquette, accompanied by Louis Jolliet, a French explorer, and two Native American guides, set out on a mission to explore the Mississippi River and its tributaries.
