The illustration is taken from Mrs. Jane Loudon's "Ladies Flower Garden of Ornamental Perennials," published in London in 1849 by William S. Orr. Mallows are herbaceous plants in the Malvaceae family, known for their velvety, rounded leaves and showy, funnel-shaped flowers. The Garden Mallow, with its pink, rose-like blooms, is a popular ornamental plant, while the Narrow-leaved Mallow is native to Europe and Asia and is valued for its medicinal properties.
