Taken on 31 January 1941, in the Southwark area of London, the image shows fire crews from the London Fire Brigade tackling a blaze following an air raid at Taylors Great Central Depository in St Georges Road. The building, which was a large warehouse and depository, had been severely damaged by a bomb during the raid, resulting in a large and smoky blaze. The firefighters are seen using turntable ladders to reach the upper floors of the building, where the fire is raging. The intense heat and smoke are evident in the photograph, with plumes of black smoke billowing from the windows of the damaged building. The firemen, dressed in their heavy protective gear, work tirelessly to extinguish the flames and prevent further damage to the surrounding area.
