Sir John Hayward (1564-1627), a prominent English historian and biographer, is depicted in this portrait. Born in London, Hayward was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and began his literary career as a translator and editor. He is best known for his works on English history, including "The Life and Raigne of King Henry the Fourth," "The Life and Raigne of King Henry the Fifth," and "The Life and Raigne of King Edward the Sixth." Hayward's historical works were groundbreaking in their time for their meticulous research and attention to detail. He was a prolific writer, producing numerous works on various aspects of English history, as well as biographies of notable figures such as Queen Elizabeth I and the Duke of Buckingham.
