This postcard features a photograph of Will Crooks, the renowned British Labour politician, taken in 1921. The image captures Crooks in the later years of his life, with a distinguished brown beard and expressive face framed by thick, wavy hair. The signature "Will Crooks, M.P." is written in elegant, flowing handwriting at the bottom of the card. Will Crooks (1852-1921) was a prominent figure in the British Labour Party, serving as a Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Poplar from 1918 until his death in 1921. He was born in Stepney, East London, and rose to prominence as a trade union leader and social reformer. Crooks was a key figure in the London Dock Strike of 1889 and was instrumental in the establishment of the Dock, Wharf, Riverside and General Workers' Union. Throughout his political career, Crooks was a passionate advocate for workers' rights and social justice. He was known for his eloquent speeches and his unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the working class. In 1911, he led the successful campaign for the "People's Budget," which aimed to redistribute wealth and increase social welfare spending.
